  • One thing that helps me is having a drink in my hands to have something to do. If I have a coffee or a water while I am in public, I don’t ring my hands or scratch at my cuticles.

It’s important to compartmentalize and not let school consume you all day every day like it easily can. Create hours or time slots in your day for “you time” whether that’s a walk, a hike, a workout class, or just time to journal or read. The key is to put it in your schedule though… if you write it down or block out that time, it’s more likely to happen!

    Absolutely!! Consistency is key though!

I used to let it happen naturally, but now that I am always trying to actively pursue it, it has almost become addicting to consistently find happiness in my day to outweigh any negatives. I am loving this new approach because I feel happiness is much more frequent when you’re actively chasing and attracting.

Going and getting a coffee is my go-to if I’m needing an instant boost.

Asking for support! That is what supervisors are for, reach out and communicate your concerns or needs.

Giving myself “non-negotiables”. I have to carve out time, even if it’s 20 minutes a day to go for a walk or read a book I’m enjoying. If I give myself those “non-negotiables”, I tend to do them without even giving myself the option to not do it.

Journaling all my positives throughout the day. It makes me have an easier time identifying the good things even on the bad days. I just do a list so it’s easy to add to throughout the day and it can be any size. Sometimes a good cup of coffee is enough for me to write it down.

Setting a timer. Set your timer to something manageable like 15 minutes and try to work on as much as you can without distractions or stopping your workflow until your timer goes off. Most likely you will continue working past that allotted time because you’ll be in a groove. If that doesn’t happen, give yourself a small break, and reset that time!

Deep breaths always. Deep breath through your nose, hold it and count to 4, let it go through your mouth until all the air has been released. 3X.
